Notice of Special Interest (NOSI): Medical Consequences of Smoking and Vaping Drugs of Abuse in Individuals with HIV and COVID-19

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

New Brief Description: Background: Tobacco use, particularly cigarette smoking, is a leading lifestyle-related cause of death in the United States. HIV-positive individuals who smoke experience higher morbidity and mortality compared to HIV-positive...

SARS-CoV-2, COVID-19 and Consequences of Alcohol Use (R01 Clinical Trial Not Allowed)

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) will support research grants to address urgent, time-sensitive research questions on the relationships between alcohol consumption and COVID-19 related outcomes and consequences. The principal area of focus is research that can improve public health in the near term by informing responses to the current COVID-19 pandemic, in view of 1) the impact of alcohol misuse on incidence and severity of COVID-19 disease or 2) the effect of the COVID-19 disease and pandemic-induced restrictions on alcohol use and alcohol use disorder (AUD).

Notice of Special Interest (NOSI): Telehealth Strategies for Individuals with HIV and Substance Use Disorders

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

New Brief Description: Background: Tobacco use, particularly cigarette smoking, is a leading lifestyle-related cause of death in the United States. HIV-positive individuals who smoke experience higher morbidity and mortality compared to HIV-positive.

Notice of Special Interest (NOSI): Using Data to Advance HIV Epidemic Knowledge and Program Planning

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

The purpose of this Notice is to encourage grant applications proposing research that makes use of available, large data sets with the objective of improving HIV epidemic modeling and service planning, with attention to greater attention to the role of substance use. Data may be from NIDA-funded or co-funded projects as well as from other sources.

Notice of Special Interest: Advancing Health Communication Research on HIV Prevention, Treatment and Cure

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

NIMH is issuing this Notice to highlight interest in research applications to optimize health communication strategies that advance HIV prevention, treatment and cure. Health communication science has made pivotal contributions to HIV prevention and treatment efforts. Early media campaigns that promoted condom use and HIV testing, proved to be positive influences on knowledge, attitudes and social norms. Increased use of client-centered communication in HIV treatment settings, contributed to greater antiretroviral therapy (ART) adherence and retention in care.

Understanding and Addressing the Impact of Structural Racism and Discrimination on Minority Health and Health Disparities (R01 Clinical Trial Optional)

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

This initiative will support (1) observational research to understand the role of structural racism and discrimination (SRD) in causing and sustaining health disparities, and (2) intervention research that addresses SRD in order to improve minority health or reduce health disparities.

Notice of Special Interest (NOSI): Identification of Biomarkers of HIV Pathogenesis and Substance Use Disorder Comorbidity

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

The goal of this Notice of Special Interest [NOSI] is to support research that will define and validate a set(s) of molecular biomarkers and/or bio-signatures indicating the degree of loss of functional reserve, or of resilience of the host defense mechanisms in people with substance use disorders (SUDs) who acquired HIV (PWH) and are on antiretroviral therapy (ART).

Adapting Immunotherapy and Gene Editing Based Strategies for Targeting HIV Reservoirs in the CNS: Potential Benefits and Risks (R01 Clinical Trial Optional)

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

The shock and kill strategy is one of the commonly used approaches for targeting latent reservoirs in hopes to cure HIV-1. It is based on the concept of purposely inducing reactivation of latent reservoirs in ART (antiretroviral therapy)-treated individuals by using stimulatory agents. However, it has become increasingly evident that attempts at elimination of HIV-1 reservoirs through latency reactivating agents (LRA) -mediated reactivation alone may not be sufficient.

NCCIH Multi-Site Feasibility Clinical Trials of Mind and Body Interventions (R01 Clinical Trial Required)

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites applications for investigator-initiated clinical trials of complementary and integrative health approaches with physical and/or psychological therapeutic inputs (often called mind and body interventions) in NCCIH-designated areas of high research priority.
