March 21-22, 2024: NIH HIV & Women Scientific Workshop: Centering the Health of Women in HIV Research
This two-day virtual workshop, co-hosted by OAR and the NIH Office of Research on Women’s Health, will review the state of the science on HIV and women to inform the future research agenda.

April 5, 2024: OAR Director’s Seminar 
During this live, virtual OAR Director’s Seminar, “The Last Gift Program: Lessons Learned From Altruistic Participants Enrolled in HIV Cure Research at the End of Life” Sara Gianella Weibel, M.D., will discuss her impactful contributions as an early career investigator (ECI) in HIV across priority areas, such as HIV reservoir, transmission, coinfection, and sex- and gender-related issues, and the continued impact of her research.

April 12-13, 2024: 14th International Workshop on HIV & Women
This hybrid workshop, sponsored in part by OAR, will provide an opportunity for partners to discuss issues, gaps, and opportunities to improve the lives of women with HIV. The workshop will be held virtually and in person in Washington, DC.

April 24, 2024: OAR Workshop for Early Career Investigators in HIV
This virtual workshop will build on enthusiasm and feedback from previous OAR early career investigator (ECI) workshops in 2022 and 2023 to provide knowledge, resources, and mentoring to the next generation of HIV investigators.

February 22, 2024: 65th Meeting of the Office of AIDS Research Advisory Council (OARAC)
The 65th meeting of OARAC, scheduled for 12 p.m.-4 p.m. ET on February 22, will feature an update on the NIH Strategic Plan for HIV and HIV-Related Research, as well as report from the OAR Acting Director, updates from the Clinical Guidelines Working Groups of OARAC, reports from OARAC representatives, and public comment. The event will be broadcast live on NIH VideoCast

February 22-23, 2024: African Workshop on HIV & Women 2024
This hybrid workshop, sponsored in part by OAR, will provide an opportunity for providers, researchers, government, industry, and community representatives to learn about strategies to reduce HIV transmission and improve the quality of life for women with HIV in Africa. The workshop will be held virtually and in person in Nairobi, Kenya.

December 1, 2023: NIH World AIDS Day 35 Event
OAR hosted the NIH World AIDS Day 35 Event: Achieving Excellence and Equity in HIV Research. The live event featured updates from the White House Office of National AIDS Policy; a fireside chat to share the NIH perspective on past, present, and future of NIH HIV research; and a panel discussion with research and community experts to explore the topic of equity in HIV research. November 1-2, 2023: NIH Virtual Workshop: Community Voices – Forging the Path Forward for HIV Self-Testing and Personalized Viral Load Monitoring
OAR and the NIH HIV/AIDS Executive Committee (NAEC) gathered HIV researchers, advocates, community organizers, product developers, regulators, and funders to identify needs related to HIV self-testing and viral load-monitoring products. Read the workshop Executive Summary.

October 26, 2023: 64th Meeting of the Office of AIDS Research Advisory Council (OARAC) 
The 64th meeting of OARAC featured an update from OAR on how health disparities are shaping the NIH HIV research program, partner presentations, and a panel highlighting NIH perspectives on the role of syndemic models in HIV health disparities research. October 26-27, 2023: International Workshop on HIV & Aging 2023
OAR supported this event, which gathered basic researchers, health care professionals, and community advocates to foster dialogue and prompt solutions that will benefit the aging population living with HIV.

September 6-9, 2023: United States Conference on HIV/AIDS (USCHA)
During USCHA, the NIH Office of Research on Women’s Health and OAR hosted a workshop, “HIV and Women: Current and Future Directions at the NIH,” to gather community input and explore ways to identify gaps and priorities at the intersection of HIV and women’s health. In addition, NIH, along with federal and community partners, held a panel discussion, “Current Landscape and Opportunities for Federal HIV and Aging Efforts” to explore how federal agencies, the HIV community, researchers, and clinicians can work together to prioritize interdisciplinary research and training and implementation strategies to address the needs of people aging with HIV.

September 5, 2023: NIH HIV and Aging Research: Current Landscape and Opportunities
NIH, along with federal and community partners, held a virtual workshop, “NIH HIV and Aging Research: Current Landscape and Opportunities.” The workshop aimed to convene a multisectoral group of researchers, community members, and federal partners to: (1) survey the current landscape of HIV and aging research; and (2) identify key future research directions to address the biomedical, behavioral, and social needs of people aging with HIV. Read the OAR Director’s Blog for a summary of this event and other OAR activities in the HIV and aging space.

July 23-26, 2023: 12th International AIDS Society Conference on HIV Science (IAS 2023)
Bill G. Kapogiannis, M.D., Acting Director of OAR, attended IAS 2023 in Brisbane, Australia. He summarized research highlights from the event and shared his reflections in an OAR Director’s Blog post.

June 22, 2023: 63rd Meeting of the Office of AIDS Research Advisory Council (OARAC)
OARAC convened its 63rd meeting to hear updates on HIV research. OARAC provides advice to the OAR director on the planning, coordination, and evaluation of research and other HIV activities conducted or supported by NIH. Watch this meeting on demand, or read a summary of the meeting.

June 28-29, 2023: Virtual Meeting: Pharmacy-Centered HIV Research: Current Landscape and Future Frontiers
This event, organized by the NIH HIV and Pharmacy Planning Group, explored optimal ways to integrate pharmacists and pharmacies into HIV prevention, treatment, and care strategies. Speakers and attendees included representatives from across the U.S. government, community, academia, and the business sector. A summary and videos of the event are available on the event webpage

April 24, 2023: OAR 2023 Workshop for Early Career Investigators in HIV 
OAR, in collaboration with NIH institutes, centers, and offices that have HIV/AIDS research budgets, hosted a workshop for early career investigators (ECIs) focused on HIV research.
